In Colombia four million people have been displaced, mostly by illegal paramilitaries. These vigilante groups, often collaborating with Colombia's military, have “disappeared" more than 15,000 people; they have killed more than 1,700 indigenous people, 2,550 union members, and nearly 5,000 members of the Unión Patriótica movement besides forcing tens of thousands of Afro-Colombians and peasants from their lands.

Between 1982 and 2005, these paramilitary groups have perpetrated more than 3500 massacres, and stole more than 12 million acres of land. Since 2002, after their "demobilization", they have killed 600 people each year. They have come to control 35% of the country’s Parliament (according to their own claims). From 2002 until today, members of the Colombian army have committed more than 950 executions.

The peace community San Jose de Apartadó established itself 10 years ago as a neutral zone to protect the civilians in the region who are often caught in the cross-fire of Colombia’s decades old conflict. The community took a courageous stand committing to demand non violently their right to justice and peace. Since the founding of their community, 170 of their leaders and members have been assassinated, 15% of the original population of the community.

Since 2000, the United States has sent $5 billion in mostly military aid to Colombia to train and fund the Colombian military which holds the worst human rights record in the Western hemisphere. But the "war on drugs" and the "war on terror" have been complete failures and neither has meant less drugs in communities in the US or less terror in communities in Colombia.

No more war in Colombia! No more US military aid to Colombia!
