Mayra Sofia Moreno is not a fan of writing bios; she prefers taking pictures, dancing and playing with dirty little people. Therefore, she has decided that it be better to describe herself using a variety of photos from her time in the Peace Community where she is the newest member of the FOR accompanying team. It is important to know that she has already gotten a few microscopic Colombian friends that have ferociously caused her body to adapt to her new local environment. Also, she has already developed her mountain legs and is pleased that it’s now easier to sprint up the mountain under the blistering sun carrying a massive backpack containing groceries. Mayra really enjoys decorating Christmas trees with coloured popcorn strung together on mint-flavoured floss (although she doesn’t agree with killing of a tree just for a few weeks of holiday). However, she is found every year in a dark corner sneaking a piece of floss and ridding her teeth of rotting food while humming ‘noche de paz’.
She has a strong disliking to the LAPD and other oppressive structures. After her time with FOR, she will return to LA and help organize a 2 month strike of all immigrants to make the US respect and honor all immigrants and migrants for the contribution and their essential presence in the country. She hopes the strike will spread like wildfire as well as build community as alternative ways of living together are created.
Mayra’s future aspirations include learning how to spin cotton candy in rainbow colours, be the lead singer for an aspiring band called ‘snail juice’ that will sing about the honoring of human rights across borders and socially constructed lines. She will also like to learn how to eat sunshine barefoot while doing a handstand on the beach. She prefers fluffy pillows that don’t smell of mildew over a teddy bear, but will settle for either in a tight pinch.
